Planning and Preparation

The following lesson is a multi day, multimodal, research based partner project where students visited, navigated and explored the virtual Wildlife San Diego Zoo. They selected an animal, conducted research and wrote about the animal using main idea and key details. Students were provided with scaffolding and modeling. As a result, students were independent in their research inquiry. Each pair of students shared their findings with the class as the culminating activity.

The following lesson reflects my ability to differentiate instruction in small group settings to best meet students’ needs. The skills taught remained consistent amongst the groups, while the level of ability differed.

The lesson below is derived from day one of introducing an Expository Writing Unit. This lesson mirrors my ability to scaffold by providing models in order to build on their prior knowledge.
